  MAY 2008 LABORS’ VIEWS

Service awards to members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for the month of May were awarded to:

     Paul Cloutier            25 yrs.

     Chris Manning            25 yrs.

Congratulations.

UCANN training will start May 20.  The carpenters have three people who will attend.  They are John Lamay, Ron Hundt, and Bill Newsom

Reminder:  Employees need to use their sick pay by June 27, 2008, or they will be paid any accumulated money on that date.   The time will be taken if not used by Nov. 8, 2008.

Our senior members were polled for the carpenter’s position at the sub base.  George Konow was the senior person who was given that job.

At last month’s Union meeting, interest was shown for having our annual Navigator’s Ball Game cookout.  Anyone who is interested should plan to attend May’s Union meeting because that is when we will determine if it will be held this year or not.

We congratulate apprentices who graduated on April 29, 2008.  A number of our apprentices are supporting road jobs, and the Company flew them back for their graduation ceremony.  Congratulations are offered to Jorge Gonzalez, Brett Tonnancour, Dave Caron, Kin-Wah Lew, Jacob Lalumiere, Kevin Benoit, John Garton, and Peter Willette.

This month our department furloughed fifteen carpenters from May 5 to June 20.  This is because, at this time, we don’t have enough work for all of the carpenters in our department.

Road Jobs:  The Company has asked the Carpenters to support fifty jobs in Newport News, and again, our members have filled that request.  That job will continue through August, and there is a possibility that it will extend until November.  So far all is good, and the management at Newport News is pleased with our performance.

Bob Tardif and I may be visiting the work site on occasion to address any problems which may occur.
