JUNE
2009 LABOR’S VIEWS A Service award to a
member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for
the month of June was presented to: Michael Rourke
30 years Congratulations! When we conducted a recent mailing to members for nominations and elections, our local had a number of letters returned for incorrect addresses. It is important that members know that they must let the Union and the Company know when they have a change of address. When the Union is notified of a change of address, we do not notify the Company, and when the Company is informed, they do not pass that information on to us. Elections for officers,
delegates, and stewards will be held on June 11, 2009, at the Thames Parking
Garage from 5:30am to 4:00pm. All
members should have received an official notice in the mail.
(If you did not receive the official mailing, you can assume that we
do not have an accurate address for you.)
At the July 9 Union meeting, we have the installation ceremony for
officers, delegates, and stewards. All
of these positions are for three year terms. Everyone should know by
now that the Company has set a date of August 2, 2009, for a tobacco-free
workplace. The Union continues to negotiate with the Company to resolve
this issue. Our local has purchased
new Union made t-shirts which are different from the previous ones.
The new color is dark grey, and they have a pocket. The decal on the back is different from the decal on the
previous t-shirts. If anyone is interested in purchasing one, please ask
your area steward. With the hiring of more
than fifty carpenters, Skip Castro has granted seventeen carpenters on the
back shift the opportunity to come to first shift.
Out of the seventeen carpenters, twelve have taken the offer, and
five have declined. We welcome
those carpenters who will be able to spend more time with their families now
that they have the same work schedule as their wives and children. |
