I would like to remind everyone that the changes in the SSIP program will start at the beginning of July 2009.  At this month’s Union meeting, we will have a guest speaker attending from Primerica who will discuss various options for retirement investments that you may want to consider.  She will try to answer any questions you may have concerning our SSIP changes.  There are no strings attached to her coming to our meeting and answering our questions.  If anyone is interested in meeting with her about their individual needs, you will be given the opportunity to schedule an appointment.

A diver’s job was previously posted, and it closed.  As I write this article, the Company still has not hired a new diver.  There seems to be a discrepancy between the qualifications that have been required in the past and what is required now.

In addition, one of the second shift divers gave up his diver’s job and regressed back to a first class carpenter so that job will also need to be posted.

Starting on July 6, 2009, we will have an intern working in our department for the summer.  He is from Windham Tech, and his mentors are Dara Salls and Paul Minas.  I feel that these two people will be excellent mentors for our new employee who is only a high school student.  Please be mindful of that fact and don’t expect him to fulfill job obligations that the average carpenter is expected to fulfill.  I hope that this will be a good learning experience for each of these interns in the different departments.

Our new tee shirts are in and, if anyone would like to purchase one, please let your area steward know or give me a call.
