AUGUST 2008 LABORS VIEWS

Service awards to members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for the month of August were awarded to

            Raymond Rondeau                    60 years

            Albert Langlois                        35 years

Congratulations!

GOLF TOURNAMENT:  A golf tournament to benefit the Gemma E. Moran United Way Labor Food Center will be held on September 19, 2008, at Pautipaug Country Club in Baltic.  Everyone is welcome.  Applications are accepted for foursomes, individuals, twosomes, and threesomes who will be assigned to a foursome.  The cost is $130 per golfer which includes dinner, lunch, greens fees, carts, and prizes.  For more information, contact Sharon Peccini at 860-464-6012 or sharon.peccini@uwsect.org.

At the August 14 Union meeting, a by-law committee will be selected to address any proposed by-law changes.  Anyone who is interested in serving on that committee should plan to attend that meeting.

SENIORITY LIST:  The Unions have received the new seniority list from the Company.  If anyone is interested in seeing the seniority list, ask your area steward.

CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS:   Hopefully, by the time you read this newsletter you will have been polled about your priorities for the next contract negotiations.  Some of the things that you might want to consider at the top of your priority list are:   First, a number of people have voiced disapproval of Christmas shutdown.  It would not cost the Company anything to do away with the shutdown.  Secondly, should the contract end in July instead of November?   Negotiations will begin in early September since our current contract expires November 8, 2008.

Our next monthly meeting is August 14, 2008, at 2:45.  It will be held in the Union Hall at 171 Thames Street in Groton.
