IMPORTANT: Overtime has slowed down and may continue to be slow. Members need to check the overtime list or ask their boss on Friday if they are scheduled to work Saturday and Sunday. The Union has been closely following the overtime hours each week to make sure that people get charged the appropriate hours. When the job title is not exhausted, and people aren’t charged the proper hours, that may affect whether they have the opportunity to work the overtime or not. Some people have shown up when they are not scheduled to work on a weekend. When this happens, they should be asked to leave. So again, make sure you check on Friday for overtime on the weekends. Also, anybody who no-shows will be charged triple. A no-show on one person’s part prevents another person from having the opportunity to work overtime.

BEREAVEMENT PAY: Member need to know that a memorandum of understanding was signed after the contract had been signed. This MOU allows members to receive forty hours of pay when a spouse, child, stepchild, parent, or step-parent dies. The current contract states that you would only receive sixteen hours pay for the death of a parent or step-parent. If a grandparent, grandchild, legal guardian, brother, sister, mother-in-law, or father-in-law dies, you are entitled to a maximum of sixteen hours pay at your working rate.

TAG STAGING IN THE 260 BUILDING: Carpenters have started to tag our staging. This is a new procedure that is being tested in the 260 building only for one month. This is to see if tagging is a more effective way to assure that staging is adequate. A daily inspection will be performed to check handrails, secured ladders, toe boards, and all other items that assure the staging is safe for workers. The tags will be placed at access points to the boats and on all exterior stagings. If you see a RED tag, that means that the staging or access point is NOT safe, and it should not be used. If this program is deemed successful in the 260 building, it will be implemented throughout the shipyard. Your cooperation would be appreciated since safety is our #1 priority.

I encourage everyone to check our website for current road job lists, seniority lists, t shirts, hats, and other information. Our address is www.local1302.com.

  Fraternally Yours,

Mike Malone, President
