July Labor Views A
Service award to a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and
Joiners was awarded to: Paul
Vine 25
years Congratulations! Our
Union has had a problem with the representative from the Company who handles
our comp cases. When employees
are hurt on the job, they need to be compensated in a timely and efficient
manner. Medical services need
to be approved quickly, and this has not been happening.
The Union has addressed these concerns with our representative.
Hopefully, these issues will be corrected in the future.
If you have a problem with a compensation case, please make the Union
aware of it. Three
weeks ago we were commended for the excellent work we did to meet the
schedule on the 23 Boat. The
Company was so pleased with our efforts that they bought pizza for
everybody. Now, all of a
sudden, the Company is claiming that we take too long for lunch, and we take
our lunch too early in the day. They claim that we take extended breaks, and
that work is not being completed in a timely fashion.
I’m confused. I’m
trying to figure out if we are the excellent workers cited a few weeks ago,
or the inefficient workers who take too much time off.
Whenever I’ve been in line in the cafeteria at 11:00am, I’ve always seen a member of Management buying his lunch at
that time. Is it ok for them to
eat early but not for us? Has
the Company addressed this issue with Management as well as the hourly
workers? We all know that if
you don’t get to the cafeteria early, they may be sold out of the meal
you’re planning to eat. Just
because we’re eating our lunch at 11:00 doesn’t mean that we’re
exceeding our allotted time. We
have accused the Company of not giving us adequate room for taking our
breaks. The way we keep the
present rooms is a reflection on us. It
is important that we keep our shops clean and usable for all employees. We are responsible for cleaning up after ourselves, and some
of our shops are unnecessarily dirty. I
am asking all members to try to respect the areas we have and try to
maintain them in a clean and orderly way. If anyone would like a Union hat, please contact a steward. Hats cost $8.00, and Union t-shirts can be bought for $11.00. Wearing this Union clothing is a sign of pride in your membership. You can also call the Union Hall to get hats and shirts.
Fraternally Yours, Mike Malone, President Carpenters' Local 1302
